TARP Worldwide Vice Chairman John Goodman to speak at CaPRA Palm Springs, CA — John Goodman, Vice Chairman at TARP Worldwide, will be speaking at the California Patient Relations Association 33rd Annual Conference in Palm Springs, California, January 31 through February 2, 2007. He will be giving a presentation entitled “The Financial Value of Patient Representatives.” “We’re finding that hospital employees often cannot adequately explain the patient-care process to the patients themselves and that patients are often reticent to complain or ask for information, a behavior we call trained hopelessness,” says Goodman, “Patient representatives help front-line employees learn how to proactively set patient expectations and explain the process.” Patient representatives can save hospitals and other health-care systems millions of dollars in legal and other fees by helping prevent major miscommunications, as well as encourage positive word of mouth from patients, says Goodman. In addition, the presence of patient representatives reinforces the hospital’s commitment to be patient-focused and gives the patient a point of contact, thereby encouraging patients to communicate early before issues become more serious. |
